I will have 3 posters on October 21st related to my work in exergaming as an intervention for older adults. Extendicare’s National Conference

Extendicare is the largest purveyor of nursing home care and retirement homes in Canada. Charlene will be presenting “It’s time to disrupt the current ways of thinking in technology and aging”.
Charlene’s work will be presented as part of a symposium about “Innovations in Long-term Care” with experts from the Center of Learning, Baycrest. Here is the description of the presentation: There has been significant research completed on the development of technologies to support the wellness of older adults; however, various limitations make them inappropriate, inefficient or ineffective. To ensure that future technologies for aging are useful, new ways of thinking in their designs is required. Disruption in the current technology landscape is needed to force us to change how we think about the design of technology. This presentation will discuss the notion of innovation through disruptive technologies, how we at AGE-WELL and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, are currently applying this concept in the design of our technology, and an overview of the technological innovations that can exponentially change care for the older adult.
Symposium on Aging Research (SoAR) 2017
Location: University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

SoAR is a one-day meeting for engaging with graduate student research beyond disciplinary and professional boundaries, and across areas of expertise to engage in aging research. Charlene will be a member of “The Pearls of Wisdom” expert panel session discussing technology use for the aging population. Each presenter will share their insights, challenges, and experiences about using technology as an older adult or with this population. This Pearls of Wisdom session is designed to assist researchers identify and overcome challenges, and to provide an interdisciplinary view of using technology with older adults.

GSA 2015, 68th Annual Scientific Meeting of The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) is one of the noticeable event on Gerontology, Medical, Health, Aging, Psychology and Biology categories. The number of visitors were expecting to attend this Meeting is nearly 4000.
Charlene’s work will be presented as part of a symposium about “The nursing role in Long-term care” with experts in the nursing field, and a poster presentation.
